Hamman Marketing Awarded US Consulting Contract to Bring Premium, 100% Tunisian Olive Oil to US Market Johnson City, TN--FAMEX, the export arm of the Tunisian government, awarded Al Hamman and Hamman Marketing Associates (HMA) a contract to serve as consultant in the US market for a three-year project to introduce and promote Tunisian olive oil to American consumers. Hamman is working with a number of Tunisian olive oil producers to educate them about the US market, bring business leaders together from the two countries, assist the businesses in exporting to the US, and execute a consistent, targeted promotional campaign to build brand awareness of Tunisian olive oil. Tunisia is the world's fourth largest producer of olive oil, after Spain, Italy and Greece. With 55% of US households using olive oil as commonly as vegetable oil, the market in America continues to grow each year. In 2007, imports of olives and olive oil to the US exceeded $1 billion. "In this extremely crowded marketplace with varying grades and qualities of oil,” says Hamman, “I'm excited to be working with Tunisia to offer the US such a pure, unblended, and high-grade olive oil.” After conducting in-depth research, Hamman presented a thorough view of the US market to 12 participating olive oil companies from Tunis to Sfax on October 17, 2008, at Maison de l'Exportateur in Tunis. "I want these businesses to enter the market with a solid understanding of the competition, common market practices such as private store labeling vs. brand labeling, and how the food industry works here," explains Hamman. "They have a high quality product, and we want to position them to effectively gain market share over the next three years." The FAMEX program, called ‘Projet de Promotion de l'Huile d'Olive Conditionnée Tunisienne,’ is partially funded by CEPEX, the Tunisian Exports Centre, and the World Bank. The next step in the project is conducting in-market visits with key members of the oil trades, such as brokers, distributors, retailers, and chefs. Hamman will continue to develop an expansive marketing plan, and will return to Tunisia to present the plan in January 2009. Hamman Marketing Associates has built a strong relationship with the Tunisian business community, especially relating to food service products. HMA recently unveiled "The Taste of Tunisia", a program introducing five Tunisian agribusiness companies' food products to the US specialty foods market in partnership with the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce (TACC) and FAMEX.
